Aqeel Karim Dhedhi, born in 1957 is the current chairman and founder of the Pakistan AKD Group. His company provides many services to the clients, ranging from financial, infrastructure, manufacturing and telecom. AKD also deals with telecom services.
Son of Haji Abdul Karim Dhedhi, Aqeel Karim was born and grown up in Karachi. The city provided him with his early education and grooming. Growing up, Dedhi got involved in export business with his brother. He, from the start, was a bright kid as in seventh class he started cotton business projects.
Aqeel Karim stepped in Stock Exchange business in the year 1976. With the huge success in Karachi stock exchange, he started his office.
Aqeel Karim is known nationally for his charity work and services to the country. He has been a part of many organizations that provides health services and work for leadership development of the new generation. Many of his services are dedicated to women empowerment.
Many organizations have him as a member of Board of Directors, including:
- The Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital
- The Indus Hospital
- The Resource Development Committee of Agha Khan
- World Memon Organization
Aqeel Kareem Dhedhi is also the proud owner of the national award “Sitara-e-Esaar” which was presented to him by the President of Pakistan. The award was given for his efforts during the devastating earthquake in 2005 in the northern areas of Pakistan in. For his exceptional services and work he has been given honorary PhD degree by Biztek Institute of the Indus Institute of Higher Education.
Aqeel Karim started his career by managing the commercial projects of his father. He remained in this business for 13 years. He has been a stock broker at the Karachi Stock Exchange since the year 1986. Also he has been on the board of the Karachi Stock Exchange in 1996, 1997, 1999 and 2001 and a member of Lahore Stock Exchange too.
A report was filed against Dhedhi that 120 billion rupees have been put into fraud. However, these allegations have been denied by AKD. In the beginning of 2014, Dhedhi’s name was placed in the Exit Control List (ECL) for Pakistan. This means he has no permission to travel abroad. In concern to this, Aqeel Karim has filed a report against the accountability bureau claiming the allegations to be fake, as no proof against him has been presented in the last two years.by
